Lamborghini Jota

cgi-2011-lamborghini-jota-16349_1.jpg

With plans to shift its research and development department from more horsepower to fewer pounds already announced, supercar manufacturer Lamborghini is preparing the way for the extinction of the Murcielago and sets the stage for the entry of the Jota.

Needless to say, details on the Jota (named so far like this in honor of Bob Wallace’s 1970s Miura Jota test mule) are scarce, but since this hasn’t stopped us so far…The Jota, lighter than the Murcielago, will use a 6.0-liter V12 engine, with sources placing the power output anywhere in between 700 and 800 hp (most likely around 700 hp).

Translated into acceleration time, this would mean a naught to sixty two sprint in 3 seconds. Faster than you can wrap your head around how to pronounce Jota…

New LFA Supercar

attik-to-help-lexus-launch-the-new-lfa-supercar-13611_1.jpg

Following the launch of the Lexus LFA supercar at the recent 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota’s luxury division Lexus debuted the new vehicle’s marketing materials, created by global creative agency ATTIK. The production version of the new Lexus machine will begin shipping the first of its 500 total units - representing the most expensive vehicles in the brand’s history - in 2011.

“ATTIK was able to take the essence of LFA and demonstrate it in visual terms, encapsulating both its world-class performance, as well as its contemporary design aesthetic and extensive customization potential,” an executive for Lexus confirmed in a release.

“The LFA is a mind-shifter - a product we fully expect to expand perceptions of the Lexus brand,” ATTIK co-founder and creative director Simon Needham. “Just seeing the LFA is something most guys of any age will get excited about. In our materials, we show how stunning the LFA is to look at, and we also demonstrate what a monster it is on the race track.”

Zenvo ST1 [VIDEO Inside]

zenvo-st1-supercar-img_3.jpg

A car whose power figures outdo the Bugatti Veyron?

This is the Zenvo ST1, introduced last year, now with new high-def pics and video available for your indulgence.

The Zenvo ST1 is a Danish supercar that comes with a 7.0 liter V8, both supercharged and turbocharged to 1104 hp and 1430 Nm of torque. Hence the ST moniker. It is also a Bio Flex engine, which means it can run on regular unleaded petrol/gas or E85 bio-ethanol. The ST1 comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a hydraulic limited-slip differential.

Yes, that engine beats the Veyron’s 8.0 liter 16-cylinder engine with 1001 hp and 1250 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h or lap time sprints is another matter, the Veyron being a pretty heavy vehicle, but both break the 3 second mark on the former. Read the rest of this entry »

Keating TKR, 1800bhp

keating-tkr-to-debut-at-mph-2009-12839_1.jpg

This year’s edition of London’s MPH Show featuring Top Gear Live will reportedly have some of the most exciting supercars in the world. The latest confirmation comes from British company Keating Supercars, who has revealed that its Keating TKR will make its world debut at the aforementioned event.

The Keating TKR is powered by a 7.0-liter engine that develops 1,800 bhp… This should make the Veyron feel bad about itself… Thanks to this enormous output of power, the Keating TKR managed to add an extra 3 mph over the current record, held by the Shelby Aero TT.

The supercar therefore managed to achieve a top speed of 260.1 mph (416 km/h) on the Salt Lake Flats in California last month. However, the company has to repeat the performance if it wants to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

VERITAS RS III Roadster

veritasrsiii---00.jpg

After an eight-year buildup, the Veritas RS III has finally slithered into series production in Grafschaft-Gelsdorf, Germany. Just like the Dutch firm Spyker, Vermot AG has resurrected the post-war German racing marque that sold a few road-going versions of their racers to a handful of lucky enthusiasts. Now, the new company is doing less racing and more street scorching, and the RS III is its first foray into the world of production cars.

In Monterey this past August, we caught our first glimpse of the finally-ready-for-production Veritas RS III. With its newly revised front end (now with 50 percent more serpent!) it looks even more like a BMW Z8 on acid. Which is totally appropriate, because this retro rocketsled is powered by the same 5.0-liter V10 engine found in the M5 supersedan. With 500 hp propelling a scant 2,400 pounds, the 30 insane lucky folks who plunk down a million bucks for one of these can look forward to a 0-100km/h dash of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of more than 215 MPH.

That’s Enzo-like performance for an Enzo-like price, but it offers ten times the exclusivity — not to mention Veritas started operating the same year as Enzo Ferrari in 1947. The difference is that this serpent lay dormant for almost 50 years, getting ready to strike.

McLaren unveiled MP4-12C

McLaren Automotive has just unveiled the company’s latest contraption, the long-awaited MP4-12C which, according to the parent manufacturer, is a “pure” McLaren as it shares absolutely no part with other car. Since we’re talking about a McLaren, the car is obviously a high performance model so it comes equipped with a 3.8-liter V8 engine that generates 600 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. Based on a rear-wheel drive system and featuring two wet clutches, the boasts a McLaren-developed seven speed Seamless Shift dual clutch gearbox (SSG) that offers multiple configurations, depending on the driver’s choice: normal, sport, automatic, launch control and winter. In case you’re wondering what the name stands for, the MP4 tag has been the chassis designation for all McLaren Formula 1 cars since 1981. Additionally, the “12″ refers to McLaren’s internal Vehicle Performance Index while the C points to carbon, the main material used in all future McLaren sports cars, as the company states.

Watch the Bentley Continental Supersports fly with Derek Bell [VIDEO inside]

Derek-Bell-bentley.jpg

The Bentley Continental Supersports, the fastest and most powerful car in the company’s 90-year history, received the ultimate examination of its supercar handling and performance credentials when Le Mans racing legend and honorary ‘Bentley Boy’ Derek Bell spent the weekend driving the 621bhp Bentley at pace during the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The muscular two-seater, which delivers a 0-60mph sprint time of just 3.7 seconds and a maximum top speed of 204mph, produced a series of searing runs up the Goodwood Hill with Bell regularly pushing the car well-over the 100mph mark on a highly challenging course renowned for its narrow road and succession of tight corners and bends.

LF-A supercar forever

2009-lexus-lf-a-supercar.jpg

It seems as if Lexus has been working on the LF-A supercar forever. Or at least six years. It’s been shown in three different concept forms, including a convertible, at auto shows since 2005 and it has twice participated in the Nürburgring 24. Toyota has never publicly confirmed whether it will actually produce the LF-A, although britain’s Autocar now reports that the super-Lexus will go on sale in October at a price estimated at £250,000, or nearly half a million dollars.

Until now, no one outside of Toyota’s test and race drivers has actually driven the LF-A. Lexus brought the LF-A racer to the Goodwood Festival of Speed last week and Autocar got to sample it briefly on a rainy track. With a 5.0-liter V10 putting out over 500 horsepower, the 3,300-pound LF-A certainly has performance to spare. The V10 apparently really comes to life above 5,000 rpm. If (and that’s a really big if) the LF-A is produced, it might only be a limited run of 500 units. Given Toyota’s losses and the current economic environment, it’s anyone’s guess whether it’ll happen, but we may find out at the Tokyo Motor Show this fall. Hat tip to RDS.
