Bye Bye to Civic Type R Sedan

honda-to-stop-production-of-the-civic-type-r-sedan-19415_1

After three years of production, Honda has announced it would stop selling the third-generation Civic Type R sedan at the end of August 2010. The car was being manufactured at the company’s Suzuka factory in Japan, exclusively for the local market. Its predecessor had come off Honda’s Swindon production line, in the UK.

Bad news for Japanese fans of this model, but there’s also good news. Honda Japan will continue to import the two-door Civic Type R Euro hatchback for at least another year. Honda started importing the car as a limited edition model last November, and due to the car’s impressive sales success Honda decided to import 2010 models as well.

Brabus E V12 Black Baron

brabus_ev12_black_baron.jpg

Among the more intricate of Brabus’ creations is this, the E V12 “Black Baron.” Based on the latest E-Class, the dark lord is refitted with a twin turbo, 6.3-liter V12 with 800 hp and an electronically-limited 811 lb-ft (even though the engine actually produces 1,047 lb-ft), a ram-air system and a tuned ECU.

Underneath is a fully-adjustable suspension and much bigger brakes and tires. To reach the car’s electronically-limited 217 mph top speed, the car’s aerodynamics have been improved at the obvious expense of the car’s looks. Unless, of course, you think those wheel spats look good. We don’t. If you need to go faster, the car is estimated to be able to hit 230 mph sans the electro-nanny. And it still gets 15 mpg.

There will only be ten of them made, and a single example will require you to hand over €600,000 ($875,000 USD). You can read about it in the presser after the jump, and check it out in the gallery of high-res photos below.

2011 Hyundai Sonata (i40) revealed

The long anticipated 2011 Hyundai Sonata (to be named i40 in Europe) has finally arrived! Ahead of its official Korean unveiling, scheduled for next month, we are bringing you the very first images of a completely undisguised next-generation Sonata sedan. The images preview Sonata’s front, side and rear-end styling, as well as provide us a sneak peak preview of Sonata’s modern cabin lay-out. As expected, the all-new Sonata is a looker and most definitely the most appealing and attractive vehicle Hyundai has ever built! The all-new four-door sedan embodies Hyundais so-called “fluidic” design language, which has been first introduced with ix-onic concept car in Geneva and later, just a few weeks ago as a matter of fact, with production-ready Tucson crossover.

Video: Rolls Royce Ghost

rolls-royce_ghost_numbs.jpg

Rolls Royce’s latest model, the Ghost, will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show next month. But before the first public appearance, the British manufacturer wanted to teas us once again and rolled out a video showing the car interacting with the real world. Dan Balmer, Rolls Royce Ghost product manager, took the car out for a ride and presented some of its most important features.

As we told you before, power will come from a 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine that releases a maximum power of 570 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 rpm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Ghost achieves some impressive figures to say the least: 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and tops at 155 mph (250 km/h).

Aston Martin Rapide image leaked

Aston Martin’s Rapide sedan is roughly half a year away from hitting showrooms but the automaker has already released official images and details for the car, which is tipped to be unveiled for the first time at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

First seen at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show in concept form, the production Rapide is nearly identical to the original show car however there are a few subtle differences. The production model loses the tiny side air intakes on the front bumper, while the sides pick up a new shunt line that runs almost the entire length of the body.

The signature elements of Aston Martin’s design language translate well to the four-door format, with key features such as the ’swan wing’ doors - rising upwards and outwards as they swing open - being applied to both the front and rear apertures. Up back the car features LED tail lights, dual exhaust tips and a boat-tail style rear decklid spoiler.

Saab 9-5 Image Leak

saab-95-leak-01.jpg

The “big” car magazines usually get hold of official photos and info about brand new vehicles well before launch, straight from the trusting car manufacturers themselves. The excuse is usually that it helps the rags prepare next month’s tree-killing issue in ample time before the launch date. However, these magazines occasionally jump the gun and publish their advance info a bit early, with no real consequences. The latest perpetrator is Germany’s trashy Autozeitung, as scans from the magazine have hit the web, depicting the all-new 2010 Saab 9-5 in its full glory.

Aston Martin Rapide Spied in Kuwait [VIDEO inside]

aston-martin-rapide.jpg

Kuwait is the last place of all the places I would expect to see a prototype Aston Martin of the upcoming four door saloon Aston Martin Rapide.

The Aston Martin Rapide is a four door saloon with an ultra luxury interior and speed of a DB9. It’s competitors include the Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes-Benz CLS, and soon to be released Porsche Panamera. This is an ultra hot segment in the luxury segment nowadays and there is even speculation that Bugatti will put forth a four-door saloon since they are introducing a new model quite soon.
