Double Diffuser Issue Once Again

ferrari-raises-double-diffuser-issue-once-again-16460_1.jpg

Ferrari have indeed been quite quick during the first test meeting of the off-season, in Valencia, but that doesn’t mean the Italian technicians won’t pay a great deal of attention to their championship rivals in the upcoming few weeks. In fact, the Scuderia’s technical director Aldo Costa has already raised some issues regarding last year’s controversial double diffuser rules.

According to the Ferrari technical, the aforementioned car part will again be subject to many rule interpretations prior to the start of the 2010 campaign, as all teams have fitted it to their cars differently. Since the FIA rulebook on double diffusers are still very grey, Costa said it will only be a matter of time until a new saga will burst on this topic.

Fans, Support Me.. Says Schumacher

schumacher-asks-for-support-from-ferrari-fans-14861_1.jpg

Considering the fact that he’ll leave the Scuderia Ferrari after no less than 14 years in order to join their greatest F1 rivals Mercedes for the upcoming 3 years, it would be an understatement to say that the Italian tifosi are not happy with the situation.

Although Ferrari’s CEO Luca di Montezemolo insisted that he will continue to be friends with Schu despite his leaving for Mercedes GP, there is a large portion of the Italian fans that consider the 40-year old German a traitor. Consequently, the 7-time world champion wanted to clear that out for everybody via an open letter to the tifosi, in which he admits Ferrari will always be a part of his heart, no matter where he’ll go.

For 14 years I was a part of Ferrari and for 14 years Ferrari was a part of me. A sizeable chunk of Ferrari will always stay in my heart. I will always think of the warmth, the strength and the dedication I received for so many years from Italian Ferrari fans,” said Schu in the letter, as reported by the Autosport magazine.

Young Drivers’ Academy From Ferrari

ferrari-create-young-drivers-academy-14701_1.jpg

Ferrari has finally joined other Formula One teams in launching a young drivers’ programme aimed at finding new talented racers that can one day debut in the world of Formula One. As announced by the Italian team on their official site, the new programme will bear the name of the “Ferrari Driver Academy” and will “find and support talented young racing drivers from around the world, with the eventual aim of getting them into the Formula 1 arena.”

In order to make it even closer to Ferrari’s F1 operations, the academy will be ran by none other than Luca Baldisserri, chief track engineer for the Scuderia’s F1 operations. Unlike other such programmes, the group of racers picked by Ferrari will not only benefit from racing support, but also personal backing.

Ferrari Tells about Schumacher Moves

ferrari-confirm-schumacher-to-race-for-mercedes-as-strong-possibility-14698_1.jpg

The possibility of Michael Schumacher returning to Formula One is very strong. And it’s not us talking, after being intoxicated with media reports of all kinds in recent weeks, but the very president of the Ferrari organization - and, at the same time, one of Schumacher’s closest friends at the Scuderia - Luca di Montezemolo.

The continuous speculation regarding Schumacher’s future in Formula One was confirmed by the Italian official during his company’s traditional Christmas dinner party on Friday, when he told international reporters that Schu confided in him and told him “there is a very strong possibility” he’ll drive for Mercedes in 2010.

Earlier this week, several reports in Germany and the UK hinted that, during a private meeting between the two, Di Montezemolo told Schumacher that he is free to leave the Scuderia at any time, as his consultancy contract with Ferrari is not binding in any legal way.

Fernando Alonso Is Popular at Ferrari

alonso-already-more-popular-at-ferrari-than-raikkonen-14030_1.jpg

Fernando Alonso didn’t even become an official Ferrari driver yet - as he is still contractually bind to Renault until January 1st - but he has already seen more of the Scuderia’s factory and facilities as compared to others in the past 2 years. And that’s not a conclusion for us to reach, but expressed by several members of the Ferrari staff these days.

Ever since the 2009 season ended, the Spaniard made two unofficial visits to the Maranello headquarters in order to get acquainted with his future collaborators - crew members, mechanics, engineers and other team officials. And that’s a huge change in terms of motivation as the one seen by the Ferrari staff back in the Kimi Raikkonen days, when the Finn was rarely seen chatting or bonding with the members of the Ferrari team.

“In the two days he (Alonso) has seen more of the Maranello factory than others in two years,” Spanish newspaper Marca quoted a team member as saying recently. Read the rest of this entry »

Ferrari Signs Jules Bianchi

ferrari-signs-jules-bianchi-after-jerez-test-13980_1.jpg

Ferrari’s announcement last month that they are looking to sign a young promising driver for a potential job with the Scuderia’s F1 operations seems to have been serious business. After only 2 days of testing at Jerez - where the rookie sessions are currently under way with all the major F1 teams - the Maranello team decided they’ve seen enough of young Jules Bianchi in the Ferrari F60.

It has therefore been confirmed that the 20-year old Frenchman has signed a multi-year deal with Ferrari. The news is really no shock to anyone familiar with the Ferrari organization, as Bianchi is managed by none other that Nicolas Todt, the son of former Ferrari boss and current FIA president Jean Todt.

In his spare time, Nicolas also owns a team in the GP2 Series, namely the ART Grand Prix, and champions Ferrari’s driver Felipe Massa.

Fight for third

Stefano-Domenicali.jpg

Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali is determined to secure third place in the Constructor’s Championship despite falling behind McLaren in the standings after the recent Brazilian Grand Prix. The Scuderia headed to Interlagos with a two point advantage over McLaren and after a successful qualifying session in which Kimi Raikkonen qualified fifth the team looked set to extend their advantage - but it wasn’t to be.

Lewis Hamilton hurtled up the field from the ninth row of the grid to finish third, while a first-lap incident in which Raikkonen’s front wing was damaged saw the Finn forced to settle for sixth spot. “Considering the positions, we could have done a great race, we could have been on the podium for sure,” admitted Domenicali.

“I think we did the right strategy with Kimi, starting on the softs to be aggressive on the first lap.

“Of course after the crash with the wing on the first lap the whole race was spoiled. We tried to recover and I think we got the maximum from it.

“Obviously we are very disappointed because we lost the points that we wanted to gain. But that’s the way it is,” he added. Despite the setback Domenicali insists the team will do everything they can to wrestle back thrid place in the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP.

“We need to keep on fighting because we know that anything can happen.

“We go to Abu Dhabi knowing it will be very difficult, but never say never. One point is nothing and we will fight up to the end. This is the main objective at the end of our season.”

Novitec Rosso Edizione 747

novitec-rosso-edizione-747-released-12181_1.jpg

It’s been quite some time since we heard from Novitec Rosso, but we must say, the wait was worth it. The tuners have apparently been hard at work into creating the newest tuning kit for the Ferrari 430 Scuderia, one which, in its own way, says “Bye, Bye, Scuderia!” Dubbed Edizione 747, the tuning kit packs both performance and styling upgrades. Unlike what we first thought, the Edizione is not inspired by any Boeing technologies (although, performance wise, we might be inclined to believe so), but takes its name after the number of horses hidden under the hood: 747 at 8,500 rpm!

The performance has been achieved by adding a Novitec Rosso 747 Bi-Compressor engine, bringing the already high output (510 hp) to the aforementioned figure. This enhancement allows the Ferrari to reach 60 in 3.4 seconds and keep on accelerating until the speedometer stops at 351 km/h (218 mph).

Fernando Alonso is going to earn 150 million euros

alonso-ferrari-20101.jpg

Fernando Alonso is about to secure his entire future later this week, when he’ll be confirmed at Ferrari alongside Felipe Massa. According to some media reports in Spain, the 2-time world champion will presumably earn as much as 150 million euros during the upcoming 6 years.

Diario Sport and As newspapers revealed earlier today that Alonso has already signed a 3-year deal with the Scuderia due to come into effect from as early as next season. The Spaniard was guaranteed his place at Maranello for the upcoming 3 years - 2012 included - after which a 2-year extension option will become automatic for Ferrari. Read the rest of this entry »

Kimi Raikkonan, $12.5M Worth?

kimitattoo.jpg

While dealing with Michael Schumacher’s cancellation of his Formula One return, Ferrari are also thinking of how to get rid of Kimi Raikkonen prior to his contract’s expiration date. The Finn’s driving deal with the Scuderia runs out at the end of 2010, but the Italian team seems more eager to get Alonso inside the Ferrari cockpit from as early as next year. For that to happen, they need to convince Raikkonen to let go of his one year of contract and make room for Alonso - as Felipe Massa’s leaving the team is out of the question. According to British newspaper The Sun, it seems Luca di Montezemolo is willing to pay the Finnish driver half his contract in 2010 to renounce his seat.
