F1 Fans Mocked by Ferrari

ferrari-mocked-f1-fans-in-germany-lauda-23596_1

Niki Lauda may have won a couple of F1 titles while wearing an all-red racing suit, but he seems to recall things were slightly different in that age. Back then, Ferrari would not have turned to team tactics to help one of its drivers won the world title, and the Austrian champion demands nothing less from the Prancing Horse nowadays also.

After publicly slamming the Maranello team for their tactics in the German Grand Prix - when Felipe Massa was suggested from the pit box to let Alonso pass him for glory - Lauda reiterated his critic this week. He compared Ferrari’s strategy with Red Bull’s and argued that the latter clearly respects the fans more than the Scuderia does.

You have two models of how to race in Formula 1 as a team. If you approach it politically then you are in the Ferrari mould. Or you try to give both your drivers equal opportunities and the fans an exciting sport, as Red Bull are doing in letting their drivers compete with each other,” said Lauda in a recent interview with Formula One’s official website.

Rossi Is Getting Closer to Formula One

ducati-deal-will-move-rossi-closer-to-formula-one-23510_1

Valentino Rossi’s move to Ducati for the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the MotoGP does not only mean a new challenge for the Doctor in the premier motorcycle racing series, but also a chance for him to make a leap to Formula One in the future.

We know the Rossi-moving-to-F1 discussion is on the brink of becoming quite old, given the multitude of reports on this story this past year, but according to his own father, Rossi’s signing with Ducati moves the 9-time world champion closer to Ferrari F1 Team. While revealing his son has no plans to leave the MotoGP in the upcoming few years, he reckoned the situation might change in 3-4 years time.

Valentino is not yet able to stop with the motorcycles. But if in three or four years he will get into Formula One, then what better road than with Ducati? This seems like a big step forward,” said Graziano Rossi in an interview with Italy’s Sky Sport.

Not 2nd Driver But 1st

massa-i-d-better-quit-than-become-no-2-22966_1.jpg

Felipe Massa insisted that he would never be a number 2 driver in Formula One, not at Ferrari and not at any team in the series. Talking to the reporters in Hungary, the place where he nearly lost his live a year ago, in the qualifying session of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Brazilian racer said that he’d rather quit than stay at Ferrari as a No 2 driver.

The time I have to I say I am the number two driver, I will not race anymore,” said Massa to reporters, according to the GMM news agency, after earlier in the day he arrived at the circuit joined by his Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali.

Earlier this week though, his very father Luiz Antonio admitted that the German events clearly showed Ferrari have issued team orders for Fernando Alonso to win the race, hinting that what his son did was not embrace his No 2 status, but follow orders and show loyalty to his team.

Ferari 458 GT

ferari-458-gt-rendering-released-22905_1.jpg

The Ferrari 458 Italia is one of the must-have contemporary supercars. Actually, the vehicle is much more than that, as Ferrari has also prepared a racing incarnation for it, the 458 Challenge.

However, a new racetrack version for the 458 Italia has recently been “created”. The quotes are used as we are talking about a rendering, not an actual vehicle. But let’s move on to the description of the project.

The racing machine you see in the adjacent image is the Ferrari 458 GT. The animal is the creation of automotive designer Jon Sibal, with this being the first stage of the project. The vehicle, which could replace the current 430 GT, would be a brother for the 458 Challenge.

New F1 Safety Car Rules

f1-safety-car-rules-changed-22245_1.jpg

The safety car rules in Formula One have finally been changed, as a result of Ferrari’s outburst at the fiasco in Valencia. All the 12 F1 teams met with FIA’s race director Charlie Whiting on Thursday to discuss a tweak in regulations regarding drivers’ behavior under safety car and a quicker response from the FIA officials when penalties are applied.

Ferrari’s and Fernando Alonso’s complaints after the European Grand Prix were that the latter respected the safety car rules and did not overtake the Bernd Maylander-driven Mercedes gullwing, while Lewis Hamilton did the opposite and went on to finish 2nd. That was a consequence of the FIA stewards’ slow thinking after Mark Webber’s crash, as they handed Hamilton the penalty 20 minutes later. It eventually had no effect whatsoever on his overall position at the finish line.

From now on however, while the safety car rules remain effectively the same, it has been agreed that drivers who are not being slowed by the safety car will have to drive on track at the same speed as the Mercedes gullwing. What that means is that all the drivers on the track will be forced to drive with the same speed, no matter if behind or ahead of the SC.

Hamilton Backfired

hamilton-backfires-at-alonso-s-comments-21858_1

Needless to say, when Fernando Alonso opened his mouth after the European Grand Prix at Valencia and accused Lewis Hamilton of not respecting the rules when passing the safety car on the track, a war of words would continue between the two.

Following that statement, Alonso made one more comment that seems to have angered his former McLaren teammate, which was that he would never team up with Hamilton again in his entire F1 career. Being that Ferrari also backed his point of view after the race – which he said was “manipulated” – Hamilton backfired immediately. Read the rest of this entry »

Alonso Will Not Team Up With Hamilton

alonso-would-never-team-up-with-hamilton-again-21805_1

If it were his decision to make, Fernando Alonso would not pair up with former teammate Lewis Hamilton until the end of his career. The two raced for the same team back in 2007, when Alonso switched from Renault to McLaren Mercedes and Hamilton made his debut in the series with the Woking based team.

However, Alonso left the British team after one season, as he believed the team was favoring Ron Dennis’ – team principal at the time – protege in the championship. Despite the feud between the two drivers, Alonso always stated that his problem was not with the young Brit, but with the unprofessional British team. Read the rest of this entry »

Mercees GP Interested in Kubica

mercedes-gp-offer-robert-kubica-3-year-deal-21766_1

Ferrari may have closed the doors for a potential Robert Kubica move to Maranello in the upcoming 2 years, but that isn’t to mean the Pole will necessarily remain at Renault for the 2011 season.

Although his team principal Eric Boullier admitted his excitement that all the big teams have already secured their lineups for the 2011 season – meaning Renault will have a bigger chance of inking an extension with Kubica, Mercedes GP doesn’t seem too convinced about that.

According to an Italian website, a member of the Mercedes GP staff has allegedly contacted Robert Kubica for a potential deal with the Brackley based team starting 2011. As reported by Omnicorse.it, the 25-year old was offered the possibility of signing a 3-year deal with the German manufacturer, with the option for another two seasons. Read the rest of this entry »

Luca Di Montezemolo Want To Push His Cars.

di-montezemolo-angry-with-slow-teams-21509_1

Ferrari’s chairman Luca di Montezemolo once again slammed the newly entered teams of Formula One on grounds of slow cars. Needless to say, for anyone who caught a glimpse to the  Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, Fernando Alonso could have easily challenge for the race win hadn’t it been for the traffic problems midway through the race.

The Spaniard lost one position in the race two times due to slow cars, first to eventual race winner Lewis Hamilton and after that to 2nd placed Jenson Button. Although he didn’t sound too angry with the situation after the race, Alonso emphasized the fact that he could have done a lot better without traffic issues in Montreal. Ferrari, Poor Car!

alonso-surprised-with-non-competitive-ferrari-20950_1.jpg

Fernando Alonso clearly did not have one of his best weekends in Turkey, as the Spanish driver failed to qualify for the Top 10 on Saturday and struggled throughout the Sunday race to eventually finish on a low 8th place at the end - which could be translated into 9th, hadn’t it been for Sebastian Vettel’s crashing out of the race.

The Spaniard admitted that Ferrari have temporarily lost the development race against McLaren and Mercedes to catch Red Bull Racing, as the Scuderia’s cars are 4th quickest at this stage of the season. The fact that both him and 3-time Turkish GP winner Felipe Massa spent the entire race behind the two Renault cars says a lot about Ferrari’s current position in the championship.
