Button No Longer with Jessica Michibata

jenson-button-breaks-up-with-jessica-michibata-20895_1

One view that never changed in the past year (and a few months) was Jenson Button’s father and his girlfriend Jessica Michibata sitting at the same table and watching the 30-year old driver winning races and championships in Formula One. Apparently, this is about to change from the very next Turkish Grand Prix, as Button and his girlfriend reportedly split up in recent days.

According to British tabloid The Sun, the two decided they weren’t going to continue as a couple shortly after the Monaco Grand Prix. Coincidentally or not, it was a race to forget for the reigning world champion, whose engine burst in the first few laps and had to record his first DNF of the season.

I want Button

Lewis Hamilton put the rumors to rest during the McLaren Mercedes MP4-25 launch event in Newbury, at least the ones regarding his new teammate Jenson Button. The 2008 world champion told the media that it was his personal choice to see the reigning F1 champion in the same McLaren seat as him, although when he first told that to his team, McLaren was not negotiating with Button.

According to Lewis, he spoke personally with the members from McLaren’s staff and for the first time launched the hypothesis that Button would complete an all-British lineup for the Woking based team.

Button Interested in the Dakar Rally

button-wants-to-compete-in-the-dakar-rally-15522_1.jpg

Jenson Button admitted that he would be interested in competing in the Dakar Rally as a privateer. The reigning champion of Formula One is apparently a big fan of the South American event and, during the Autosport International gala this weekend, told the media that contesting in the famous cross-country rally is a personal aim of his, for the moment.

However, he did mention that he would do it only as a privateer, because he wants to have no pressure on his shoulders when rallying. The solution would therefore be to contest as a privateer and have as much fun as possible. Consequently, we might add, a win would be out of the question.

I want to do the Dakar, which would be quite fun, that is on at the moment and I would like to do that. If you get into one of the top teams and you are racing for them, it is just so much pressure. I would want to go there and enjoy the race,” said Button.

Button Lost to Hamilton in Top Gear Test

button-beaten-by-hamilton-in-top-gear-test-14818_1.jpg

Jenson Button has lost his first head-to-head confrontation with his new teammate and future rival Lewis Hamilton since he joined McLaren Mercedes team. Although the two were not put one alongside another on a track to compete for 1st place, they were given the chance to lap for the fastest time (in different days) during the famous BBC show Top Gear.

While Hamilton’s test happened a couple of years ago - during his very first season in Formula One and before he became world champion for the Woking based team - Jenson Button’s rolled off earlier this month.

However, the reigning world champion failed to top Ham’s time around the Top Gear-selected track, as he eventually crossed the finish line some two-tenths of a second slower than his new teammate (who stopped the clock at 1:44.9). The results didn’t seem to bump Button too much, as he admitted he is still eager to challenge Ham for the upper hand at McLaren.

fry-no-hard-feelings-between-team-and-button-14672_1.jpg

Mercedes GP CEO Nick Fry insisted that there are no had feelings between his organization (and him personally) and former employee/reigning world champion Jenson Button. Despite the fact that the 29-year old Brit preferred to take on the challenge of racing alongside Lewis Hamilton at McLaren Mercedes rather than stick with the team that helped him become world champion, Fry insisted that he wishes Button all the well in the world.

Clearly, I’ve had some nice chats with Jenson at social functions over the last few days and, contrary to what people might think, there’s no hard feelings at all. We wish him all the best. We were disappointed that he left our team, but we’ve got a nice relationship and we all want to work together in the future,” said Fry in an interview with 422race.com.

Button Negative On Schumacher’s Return

button-says-f1-return-risky-for-schumacher-14455_1.jpg

With the reports about Michael Schumacher’s return to Formula One getting more and more serious, several driver in the F1 paddock started to share their own view on the matter. While countryman Adrian Sutil said that Schu’s return might not be such a good idea for the 40-year old ace, reigning F1 champion Jenson Button also argued that it might be risky business for the former Ferrari-an.

Although admitting that the sport would benefit a great deal from Schumacher’s presence on the F1 grid, Button stressed the fact that the German driver will put his reputation on the line for no good reason.

Schumacher coming back to F1 is great news for the sport. But I don’t know if it will be great news for Michael Schumacher. He will be putting his reputation on the line coming back into the sport,” said Button in an interview with British tabloid News of the World.

Button: I Tell You Why

button-reveals-reasons-for-mclaren-switch-13476_1

Following immense criticism from most of the F1 pundits and former employers back at Brawn for his sudden switch to McLaren Mercedes, Jenson Button finally broke the silence and told the world why he chose to pack his bags and head to Woking.

The reigning world champion actually confirmed the latest reports that he would have earned more money back at Brackley than what he has signed for with McLaren, but decided to leave Ross Brawn & Co anyway because he was looking for new challenges in the sport. So it was the toughness of the challenge that drove him to seal a deal with McLaren, rather than continue with his comforting life at Brawn.

I am actually earning less than I would have been at Brawn so it’s not about the money. It’s because it’s something new,” said Brawn in a short interview with BBC Radio Five Live.

Stewart prefer Button stays with Brawn

jackie-stewart-button-made-the-wrong-call-13442_1.jpg

First he warned Jenson Button not to leave his position within the Brawn GP organization - soon to become Silver Arrows F1 - for a place at Woking, now he sticks by his argument and publicly tells the reigning F1 champion that he did a mistake when going for the McLaren Mercedes money.Yes, we are talking about triple-crowned F1 champion Sir Jackie Stewart.

Even if they do prepare him a title-winning car next year, McLaren will most certainly make it more difficult for Button to outscore fellow countryman Lewis Hamilton. Two British champions driving for a British team is surely a dream come true for most of the UK racing fans, but it won’t keep sparks from igniting during Button’s stay at McLaren - as we believe Hamilton will be there for life. Massa, Hamilton/Button Face Off

felipe-massa-excited-to-go-against-hamilton-button-lineup-13364_1.jpg

The news that Jenson Button has agreed to a 3-year fruitful deal with McLaren Mercedes in recent days has made the headlines everywhere. And with it, it brought another piece of controversy inside the F1 paddock.

Obviously, some people are against such a move, while others support it. A few days ago, former F1 triple champions Niki Lauda and Sir Jackie Stewart advised Button to stay at Brackley, as his move to McLaren would only compromise his chances of defending his world title.

In addition, former GP driver and current advisor for Red Bull Racing David Coulthard also told the media that he wouldn’t move from a title-winning team to McLaren only for the money, as past experiences have taught him that fighting for the title is far more rewarding - from a sporting point of view - than earning more money and spend the season chance-less for the title.

Button Deal with McLaren for 3 years

jenson-button-agrees-to-3-year-deal-with-mclaren-13346_1.jpg

Of course this is not official, but it seems that Jenson Button has already agreed to a 18 million pounds sterling deal with McLaren Mercedes, for the upcoming 3 seasons of Formula One. According to the British newspaper The Guardian, the defending Formula One champion will sign the papers in the upcoming few days, as he has already said “yes” to McLaren’s offer.

The 29-year old driver was seen joining his manager Richard Goodard in a tour of the Woking factory over the last weekend, and the aforementioned publication cites sources close to Button who confirm the Brit was quite impressed with what he saw.

In addition, the fact that Ross Brawn is unlikely to update his offer for a contract extension even after his team was purchased by Daimler AG seems to have made all the difference in the world for Jenson. According to Nick Fry, Mercedes’ buyout will not lead to a better offer to Button, which drove the British driver away to Woking.
