Aston Martin is on a roll of late, the latest creation its four-door masterpiece, the Rapide. While that car has its quirks, it’s certainly one of the most attractive four-door sports cars in existence. Last year, the company shoe-horned a brawny V-12 engine into the Vantage, taking the car’s performance to a new level. Now Aston Martin is preparing a facelift of its DB9 grand tourer, captured testing in prototype form in these latest spy shots.

Not wanting to muck around with the beautiful lines of the DB9, Aston Martin designers are preparing only a small facelift for the car, consisting of new bumpers, a bigger rear spoiler and side skirts borrowed from the more extreme DBS.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage

aston-martin-v12-vantage-uncovering-a-bit-of-the-magic-18125_1.jpg

Buyers of mainstream cars couldn’t care less about the advanced production details of their vehicles as long as the wheels keep spinning, but when it comes to supercars, like Aston Martins, some users would even like to know what medical school the surgeon that stitched the leather upholstery went to.

We’d like to tell you that (actually, we’re more interested in Alcantara operations) but, unfortunately, we can’t right now, as we’re still gathering information. However, we do know that the toff adrenaline junkie-destined V12 Vantage rides on lightweight rims supplied by Alcoa Auto Wheels.

These feature a “diamond-turned”, ten-spoke design and are wider than the wheels used on the “torque working class” V8 Vantage. The set that flanks the V12 powerplant comes in a 19 inch x 9 inch size, while the one that handles the engine’s fury comes in a 19 inch x 11 inch size. This is not marketing, it is engineering, as the rims have to accommodate wider tires. All the work results in maximum supported cornering force of up to 1.3g, a record for Aston Martin and a more-than-enough value to bring your female partner closer to you when you really want to.

T he forging technology behind these wheels enables significant weight savings directly benefiting handling performance, ride quality, acceleration and braking,” explains David Yates, marketing manager for Alcoa Europe. “Our forging process results in a superior metal structure that also improves strength and durability, allowing finer wheel detailing and lighter weight.

Aston Martin LMP1/Challenger II comparison

Two British iconic vehicles met on Salisbury Plain last week for charity purposes, with all the proceeds from the event going to ‘Help for Heroes’. The organization, formed to help those who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflicts, received an estimated £6k following this event.

But to get straight to the point, there was one racing car against a tank, namely the Le Mans Series-winning Aston Martin LMP1 versus the Challenger II Battle Tank. Just as expected, the race car had to admit defeat against the army’s most feared weapon.

Aston Martin Rapide image leaked

Aston Martin’s Rapide sedan is roughly half a year away from hitting showrooms but the automaker has already released official images and details for the car, which is tipped to be unveiled for the first time at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

First seen at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show in concept form, the production Rapide is nearly identical to the original show car however there are a few subtle differences. The production model loses the tiny side air intakes on the front bumper, while the sides pick up a new shunt line that runs almost the entire length of the body.

The signature elements of Aston Martin’s design language translate well to the four-door format, with key features such as the ’swan wing’ doors - rising upwards and outwards as they swing open - being applied to both the front and rear apertures. Up back the car features LED tail lights, dual exhaust tips and a boat-tail style rear decklid spoiler.

Aston Martin Lagonda ceoncept shelved

It’s a situation already hackneyed: a new car model has been put on ice by the cold global economic climate. Fortunately for esthetes and fans of Aston Martin, however, the latest model to face that fate is the Lagonda. Widely lambasted for its Saab 9X Aero-meets-recreational-bus looks, the Lagonda Concept displayed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show was an inauspicious rebirth of a once legendary brand. Fans were few and foes were many. It turns out that the car’s looks weren’t all it had working against it.

Aston Martin Rapide Spied in Kuwait [VIDEO inside]

aston-martin-rapide.jpg

Kuwait is the last place of all the places I would expect to see a prototype Aston Martin of the upcoming four door saloon Aston Martin Rapide.

The Aston Martin Rapide is a four door saloon with an ultra luxury interior and speed of a DB9. It’s competitors include the Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes-Benz CLS, and soon to be released Porsche Panamera. This is an ultra hot segment in the luxury segment nowadays and there is even speculation that Bugatti will put forth a four-door saloon since they are introducing a new model quite soon.
