The Mazda 6 received another award after already being Australia’s best selling imported car in the medium segment. The car competed against class rivals like the Ford Mondeo, Subaru Liberty 2.5i Sports and the Toyota Prius.
The 2009 Drive Car of the Year award (or dCOTY abbreviated) is an Australian automotive prize granted by The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Drive.com.au. The judges gave the Mazda 6 the award after assessing several aspects of major customer interest like value-for-money, economy, driving performance and dynamics, safety and practicality.
In tests, the judges noted the car’s styling, interior user-friendliness, quality feel and competitive space. These independent tests are one of the best ways to properly and reliably inform both customers and carmakers about each car’s strong and weak points as well as day-to-day expectations.
