Another Nissan goodie is getting ready to storm the Japanese dealerships on August 18: the 2011 Elgrand or, as Nissan calls it, the “King of Minivans.” The third generation of the model will bring with it changes to the exterior, interior and performances as well.

Engine wise, the vehicle will come equipped with a choice of two engines. The first is the 3.5l VQ35DE unit which develops 280 PS at 6,400 rpm and maximum torque of 344 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The second is the 2.5l QR25DE powerplant which develops a maximum output of 170 PS at 5,600 rpm and a maximum torque of 245 Nm at 3,900 rpm. The engines are paired to a tweaked Xtronic CVT-M6 transmission with wide gear range and low-speed lockup function.

The minivan will be offered in both two- and four-wheel drive versions. Regardless of the engine or traction configurations, all Elgrand models achieve SU-LEV certification, emitting 75 percent fewer exhaust emissions than the 2005 standards.

nissan-micra-to-get-new-12l-engine-22492_1.jpg

Japanese manufacturer Nissan announced today the development of the 1.2l HR12DDR engine, a unit which is said to be capable of achieving power outputs similar to the ones of a bigger, 1.5l engine, while keeping fuel consumption levels an CO2 emissions at very low levels.

The new Miller cycle unit will make its entrance on the Micra model in European markets in 2011. According to Nissan, the low figures have been achieved by the implementation of gasoline direct injection system (DIG), a highly efficient supercharger and, of course, an Idling Stop system.

When it will be launched, the Micra for the European markets will be equipped with a one-engine option, a new naturally aspirated HR12 1.2l 3-cylinder petrol engine (80 ps/108Nm of torque).

Following a £1.94 million grant from regional development agency One North East, Nissan’s Sunderland Plant has started production of an all-new engine, namely a 2.0 litre petrol unit. Dubbed MR, the new engine could generate 200 new jobs over the next three years. The contract to assemble the MR engines was secured in July 2009.

“This fresh investment from Nissan is a real boost both for the staff at its Sunderland plant and for the wider automotive industry in our region,” said One North East Chairman Margaret Fay. Read the rest of this entry »

Nissan 350Z With Unichip

unichip-plays-with-the-nissan-350z-19812_1.jpg

Unichip Europe has developed a new plug and play “U-connect” Unichip piggyback ECU for the Nissan 350Z.

The Japanese coupe likes to play “hard to get” with tuners, as its ECU can’t be remapped using OBD flash programing. This is why Unichip developed the new system, which intercepts the signals from the car’s factory sensors and channels them through the Uni-Q, allowing the ignition and fueling parameters to be modified for increased performance.

The company has performed multiple dynamometer test and has shown that its Unichip Uni-Q squeezes an extra 20 hp from the car’s 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 powerplant, which originally produced 264 hp (measured). The modification brings the unit’s torque from 236 lb-ft to 262 lb-ft.

nissan-pathfinder-and-navara-facelift-first-photos-17172_1.jpg

Scheduled to be presented at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show next month, the new versions of Nissan Pathfinder and Navara have surfaced on the web today, showing little exterior changes but bringing, according to the little information available, several changes to the mechanics.

According to Autoblog.it, the biggest news comes in the form of the 3.0l V6 dCi engine, developing 238 hp and 55 Nm of torque. The engine, a joint effort of Nissan and Renault, will also be used on the Infiniti EX and FX models in the near future.

Otherwise, Nissan will offer for the two models the existing 2.5l dCi engine (190 hp and 450 Nm of torque), tweaked into being more fuel effective and now providing a fuel consumption rate of 8.4l/100 km.
Other changes to the two models include the addition of new color choices at the exterior, with the front end featuring restyled grille and redesigned headlights. On the interior, the comfort has been enhanced, while the standard equipment has been refined.

As said, the two models will be presented in Geneva, together with the new Micra, the Juke small crossover, the Leaf, the facelifted Qashqai and the 370Z Roadster.
