Scheduled to be presented at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show next month, the new versions of Nissan Pathfinder and Navara have surfaced on the web today, showing little exterior changes but bringing, according to the little information available, several changes to the mechanics.

According to Autoblog.it, the biggest news comes in the form of the 3.0l V6 dCi engine, developing 238 hp and 55 Nm of torque. The engine, a joint effort of Nissan and Renault, will also be used on the Infiniti EX and FX models in the near future.

Otherwise, Nissan will offer for the two models the existing 2.5l dCi engine (190 hp and 450 Nm of torque), tweaked into being more fuel effective and now providing a fuel consumption rate of 8.4l/100 km.
Other changes to the two models include the addition of new color choices at the exterior, with the front end featuring restyled grille and redesigned headlights. On the interior, the comfort has been enhanced, while the standard equipment has been refined.

As said, the two models will be presented in Geneva, together with the new Micra, the Juke small crossover, the Leaf, the facelifted Qashqai and the 370Z Roadster.

Nissan Investigating Driveshaft Defects

nissan-investigates-driveshaft-defects-thumb-16953_1.jpg

After Toyota, another Japanese car manufacturer seems to have some problems in terms of recalls, as Nissan confirmed that it is investigating potential driveshaft problems in North America, as a Result of Dana supplied parts. If the problem is real, the recall would only involve “a small number” of production SUVs and trucks of the Nissan and Infiniti brands.

“Nissan/Infiniti vehicles built with one of these yokes will not experience a loss of control or present a safety risk even in the unlikely event the part should fail,”
a spokesperson promptly told TheDetroitBureau.com.

As component supplier Dana was the one telling Toyota of a cracking defect that occurred during the manufacturing process, the wheels were set in motion and the carmaker immediately recalled 2010 model Tacoma trucks.

Prior to the public unveiling that will take place at the Geneva Motor Show in March, Nissan will present the Juke crossover tomorrow. The car, which is going to be produced in the United Kingdom and will arrive in dealerships in October, will be smaller than the Qashqai but bigger than a Nissan Note.

“The Juke will inject some much-needed dynamism into the small car segment, offering European car-buyers an alternative to the traditional, uninspiring small hatchback,”
the automaker said in a statement back in January while officially confirming that it will bear the Juke nameplate.

The Japanese car manufacturer Nissan announced its eco-drive support system, Eco-mode function and Navigation-linked speed control have won the ANRE (Agency for Natural Resources and Energy) Director-General’s award in the 20th annual Energy Conservation Prize.

Anybody can win this award as long as it brings important innovation to energy conservation. This includes the use of new energy- and resource-saving or high energy-efficient materials, equipment and systems for non-military use.

Nissan’s award winning system enables eco-driving at a low cost. In the future, the system will be found on a wider range of vehicles, so it is expected that it will contribute to serious energy conservation.

Nissan Qashqai Facelift 2011

spyshots-2011-nissan-qashqai-facelift-13969_1.jpg

The Nissan Qashqai will receive its first facelift next year but until now, nobody knew exactly how the updated model was going to look like - except for the people working at Nissan, of course. Well, what we have here are the first spyshots giving us a glimpse into its appearance, although it’s quite difficult to notice the differences that will make it to the production model.

However, we can still observe that the spied model comes with a camouflaged front fascia, covered rear bumper and tailights, which basically is the first indication that Nissan will bring some modifications in these areas.

Technical specifications of the new Qashqai are still an enigma for the time being, but some voices are hinting that interiors of the reworked models will be mostly similar to the ones we’re seeing on the current version.

Nissan Qazana 2010

nissan-qazana-goes-on-sale-in-2010-13756_1.jpg

Probably one of the most disputed crossovers concepts revealed this year, the Nissan Qazana, is projected to go on sale in October 2010. “The Nissan brand is going to have a more attractive and emotional appeal in the future,” an inside source told autocar.co.uk “and the Qazana will start the process.” The concept that was showcased by Nissan at this year’s Geneva Show is inspired by motorbikes and beach buggies and mixes SUVs’ and sport cars’ styling cues.

Inside, the design follows the lines set by the exterior. The centre portion of the backrests features a mesh material, allowing fresh air to circulate around the occupants, while boasting elements of the lightweight carbon fibber seat structure. The dashboard is dominated by a centrally mounted screen, which will provide both navigation info and information about the fully electronic four-wheel drive with torque vectoring system.

Nissan Lease X-Trail to Coca-Cola

nissan-to-lease-x-trail-fcv-to-coca-cola-zero-13700_1.jpg

The American division of Nissan announced it has initiated the first fuel cell vehicle (FCV) lease in North America, after it has already used FCVs in demonstration fleets in Japan and in California (through the California Fuel Cell Partnership - CaFCP). The Nissan X-TRAIL Fuel Cell Vehicle will be leased to Sacramento Coca-Cola Bottling for one year, with an option for two additional years.

“Sacramento already has the beginning of a hydrogen infrastructure in place, and Sacramento Coca-Cola has a track record of utilizing low emissions cars, so the two companies share a green philosophy as well as a common love of things ‘zero’,”
said Eric Noziere, vice president, Corporate Planning, Nissan North America.

Nissan’s X-TRAIL FCV will be used by the bottler for sales calls and public events in the Sacramento area in promotion of its Coca-Cola Zero soft drink.

The goals provisioned in the MoU are the creation of a network of charging stations, the deployment of IT Connectivity for real-time information about charging infrastructure and the promotion of EV fleets through test-drive events, educational brochures and briefings.

Through partnership with Nissan, we hope the E-KIZUNA Project can become the model for a low-carbon society. This project aims to create not only a sustainable society, but also a comfortable living environment in the city. We are committed to make E-KIZUNA a success,” Saitama City Mayor Shimizu said in a release.
