The 2011 Cadillac CTS is now on the list of vehicles that have been chosen as a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, as the car has received the highest-possible rating of “Good” for the front, side, rear and rollover crash protection tests.

The CTS earns the Institute’s top safety designation with the highest ratings in four demanding crash tests,” said Institute president Adrian Lund. “The tough award criteria also require electronic stability control, a crucial safety feature that can help drivers avoid many crashes altogether.

The 2011 CTS has been built using Cadillac’s safety philosophy that covers the events that occur before, during and after a crash. The vehicle uses a high-strength steel body structure and safety cage. These are complimented by a number of standard safety features.

Volkswagen win Engine of the Year Award

volkswagen-takes-the-engine-of-the-year-award-21744_1

Volkswagen has managed to win the overall Engine of the Year Award, with its twin charged (supercharged and turbocharged) 1.4 liter TSI powerplant clinching both the overall and the 1 to 1.4 liter category title.

Dr. Rudiger Szengel, Head of Volkswagen Petrol Engine Development was present to accept the award at a ceremony that was recently held in Stuttgart, Germany.

I and the entire Volkswagen development team are extremely proud to receive this major international prize in the overall category for the second year in succession for the 1.4 twincharger. The combination of compressor and turbocharging provides an excellent basis for combining driving pleasure and low fuel consumption – all achieved with a relatively small engine capacity of 1.4-litres,” said Dr. Szengel.

The units included in the competition are evaluated by an international panel of top 72 independent journalists.

Volkswagen’s 1.4 TSI engine offers power ratings ranging from 122 hp to 182 hp, with tuners taking the powerplant above the 200 hp level. The unit is used in multiple Volkswagen models, such as the Polo, Golf, Touran, Tiguan and Sharan.

It is a fantastic achievement for Volkswagen to have won the award for a second consecutive year, and it demonstrates that engine downsizing is very much here to stay. We’ve seen more new engines launched into the market than ever before in the Awards’ history, and the vast majority of them were below 1.8 litres. That Volkswagen’s clever 1.4litre twincharger is still proclaimed by the judges as the best engine on sale in the world today demonstrates the class of this highly refined trend setter,” said Dean Slavnich, editor of organizing magazine Engine Technology International and co-chair of the judging panel.

button-brawn-clinch-laureus-awards-17922_1.jpg

Although one can hardly believe this, a 30-year old racer was named the Breakthrough Sportsman of the Year during this year’s Laureus Awards. Obviously, we’re talking about the reigning Formula One champion Jenson Button, who last year clinched his first title in career despite being uncertain of his F1 seat until a few weeks before the start of the championship.

Following Honda’s exit from the world of Formula One at the end of 2008, the Brackley based team remained without funds for the 2009 campaign. Eventually, the Japanese manufacturer proceeded to a management buyout towards Ross Brawn, and the new Brawn GP was formed. The team went on to secure both championship titles - drivers and manufacturers - writing one of the most exciting stories in the history of the sport.

Jeremy said: “With the newly-opened factory in Eastern Europe pumping out high quality vehicles and dealers selling them at the right price to a consumer base looking for alternative motoring choices, it was only a matter of time before Hyundai entered the mainstream”. Audi Won Most Improved Brand Loyalty

audi_100183867_s.jpg

The battle to win–and keep–hearts and minds is fiercer than ever in the current low-volume U.S. luxury market. Audi made major strides this year, gaining market share and losing the least of the major luxury carmakers. And on top of that, it earned R.L. Polk’s award for the “most improved brand loyalty” in the industry.

Audi saw its brand loyalty, measured as the amount of repeat customers, grow by 4.9 percent in 2009. That’s enough to beat the improvement of not just every luxury brand, but every carmaker in the U.S. The overall brand loyalty title went to Toyota, topping GM for the first time in nine years.
