TR 1000 Reaches 391 km/h

worlds-fastest-porsche-911-unleashed-9ff-tr-1000-reaches-391-km-h-14981_1.jpg

Porsche specialized tuning company 9ff has taken its TR 1000 tuned 911 Turbo to the ATP automotive testing circuit in Papenburg, Germany and tested the car’s top speed, obtaining an impressive figure of 391.7 km/h (243.4 mph), as Option Auto reports.

The force responsible for this performance comes from the TR-1000’s 4 liter flat-six engine with two improved turbochargers, a modified intercooler, sport camshafts, titanium rods, revised cylinder head and driveshaft, a sport air filter, a reprogrammed ECU and of course a high performance exhaust system. As the car’s name implies, the engine now develops 1000 HP at 7800 rpm and 1040 Nm of torque.

At this level of speed power would mean absolutely nothing without aerodynamics, so 9ff covered this area in a very special way. A modest body kit including a front splitter, new side skirts, a rear diffuser and a rear wing. We say special because it is totally unusual for a tuned vehicle of this level to have such a discreet appearance, and we can only be pleased with that.

3-Year Deal with Manor

branson-reveals-only-3-year-deal-with-manor-14974_1.jpg

Sir Richard Branson revealed that he is enthusiastic about creating his own team in Formula One, despite the fact that his outfit will most certainly not enjoy the same success as Brawn GP, his former partner in the series.

We’re not expecting the same sort of good fortune that we had last year. We fully accept that we’re going to have to build the team over the coming years. But it’s going to be exciting to try and do that,” Branson was quoted as saying by planetf1.com.

Nevertheless, Branson made it very clear that his investment in the series will not last for too long, as the Manor chiefs will have to bring in some sponsors of their own after the first few years in F1. The current budget of the British outfit is approximately £40 million, all of if being secured by Virgin Group.

Threatened to Leave?

ferrari-threated-to-leave-f1-again-14968_1.jpg

Ferrari once again decided to play hard ball in the Formula One Championship, only if the game is so far played in terms of bellicose declarations. Again, it was the company’s CEO Luca di Montezemolo who publicly asked the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone to make sure the environment within the Great Circle will improve in the upcoming 3 years.

Otherwise, Di Montezemolo revealed his company is considering quitting the sport - as if we haven’t heard that threat before. The argument backing that position are the constant rule changing process within Formula One, making it very difficult for the teams to following a long-term plan in the sport, as well as the arbitrary cost-cutting rules imposed by the FIA.

I want F1 to improve between now and 2012, when we sign a new Concorde Agreement, and if not we will have motivation somewhere else,” Di Montezemolo was quoted as saying to British magazine Autosport during a Christmas event at Maranello.

Schumacher Still Very Competitive, said Briatore

briatore-believes-schumacher-is-still-f1-competitive-14965_1.jpg

Before finding out the definitive decision of the Paris’ Tribunal de Grande Instance in his trial against the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Flavio Briatore spoke his mind about the most important topic of the day in Formula One, namely the return of his former pupil Michael Schumacher in the series.

Needless to say, his opinion is that Schumacher can return to winning in Formula One at any time, as Briatore argued the German already left the series prematurely in 2006. According to his former manager at Benetton, Schu could have stayed competitive in the Great Circle for at least 2 or 3 years. As long as he’s physically fit to race, the soon-to-be 41-year old still has it in him to become once again race winner in the series.

Knowing him, I think he’s reflected on it for a long time, and if he’s decided to come back it’s because he’s convinced he can still be quick. The last season demonstrates this clearly, because the driver who’s become World Champion is certainly not the best on the scene,” said Briatore in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

mika-salo-gets-600-hp-supercharged-camaro-thumb-14957_1.jpg

Camaro Motorsport just introduced a wide variety of performance parts for the new Camaro, which include a supercharger for the V8 engine. And what better way to advertise it then to deliver the first supercharged Camaro to a motorsport personality like ex-F1 driver, Mika Salo.

“I’m a Camaro fan, I already own a classic ‘69 Camaro with supercharger. That car delivers well over 1000 hp. With this new car, I have a modern car with ‘retro’ looks and stunning performance. A great combination. On top, it has proven to be very reliable as all parts are built according to the highest quality standard,”
said Salo.

Salo, who is preparing for next year’s NASCAR championship in the Unites States, took delivery of a Camaro with the 6.2 liter V8, paddle shift 6 speed automatic and SC 600 Supercharger package, which increases the engine’s performance from 400 hp and 557 Nm of torque to 600 hp and 747 Nm.

Button and Brawn Honoured by Queen Elizabeth II

queen-elizabeth-ii-to-honor-ross-brawn-jenson-button-14956_1.jpg

It’s becoming a quite common tradition in the UK for the world champions of Formula One to make the New Year Honours list of the Queen. After Lewis Hamilton won the 2008 F1 championship, Queen Elizabeth II honored the McLaren racer with the Member of the British Empire (MBE).

Now, it is time for Jenson Button to get the honors, as revealed by several British media in recent weeks. However, he will not stand alone before the Queen, but joined by none other than the very man he let down at the end of the 2009 season, Ross Brawn. According to the Daily Telegraph, the Brawn GP team owner last season will also be honored with distinction from the Queen.

However, the aforementioned source did not disclose any information on Brawn’s honors. Considering his immense contribution to the sport of motor racing in the UK, the 54-year old may receive a higher honor from Queen Elizabeth II, such as an OBE or a knighthood, as compared to Button’s MBE.

he first Mercedes-Benz Econic

daimler-delivers-the-first-mercedes-benz-econic-14942_1.jpg

The first Mercedes-Benz Econic powered by Natural Gas Technology was handed out to the ALDI SÜD group of companies in Mönchengladbach, Germany. We’re talking about a semitrailer tractor with a high roof and a refrigerated semitrailer which is meant for food distribution operations.

According to Daimler, “ALDI SÜD uses the new Mercedes-Benz Econic NGT to supply its branches on the left bank of the Lower Rhine from the central warehouse in Mönchengladbach. Traffic-calming zones, narrow entrances, illegally parked cars, increasing environmental regulations and access restrictions - as well as enormous time pressure - mean that city logistics make heavy demands on both the driver and vehicle.

Tunnel Exit, Will Not Change for Abu Dhabi GP

pit-lane-tunnel-exit-dusk-finale-will-not-change-for-2010-abu-dhabi-gp-14943_1.jpg

The famous pit lane exit from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will not be changed. Track boss Richard Cregan made that very clear in an interview with British publication Autosport, ending the speculation that the race officials were considering to proceed to some changes regarding that aspect following some criticism after the last season’s finale.

The pit lane exit tunnel that goes under the track was seen as one of the radical elements of the new Yas Marina Circuit, alongside the organizers’ decision to end the F1 action at dusk, under artificial lights.

However, Cregan pointed out that the feedback from both the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone and the fans regarding the maiden Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2009 were mostly positive, therefore there is no reason to change the aforementioned aspects of the event. Some minor modifications will however be operated in order to make the action even more enjoyable for both the racers and the spectators.

geely-promises-to-keep-volvo-as-is-14941_1.jpg

Ford has already confirmed that Geely is very close to take control of Volvo, with the final signature expected to come in early 2010. Although various media reports have already suggested several changes to be made within Volvo once the Chinese guys take over the brand, Geely’s officials promise to keep Volvo as it is in most areas.

For example, the current production, research and development facilities will remain untouched under Geely’s ownership, Reuters reported citing a Chinese official. Furthermore, the dealership network and union agreements will continue to exist in the same form.

“If the deal succeeds, nothing will change for Volvo, except the boss turns to Li Shufu,” Li Shufu, founder of Geely Group, told the official Xinhua news agency. “Volvo and Geely will be two independently managed brands.”
