Schumacher Admits Possible Return to F1

schumacher-admits-f1-return-a-possibility-13882_1.jpg

Michael Schumacher continued to tell the media exactly the same words that he kept telling them for weeks now: anything can happen in the near future regarding his potential comeback to the sport of Formula One. However, given the latest rumors about his switch to Mercedes/Silver Arrows team, such an answer could mean so many things to the F1 enthusiasts.

If his staying at Ferrari had remained a fact, his “you never know” answer would have meant very little in terms of 2010 lineups. However, now that he is actually considering leaving the Scuderia after more than a decade in order to join its rivals in the series Mercedes-Benz for a real, palpable racing job, that’s a whole other story.

Alonso Didn’t Accept Massa’s Karting Invitation

alonso-did-not-accept-massa-s-karting-invitation-13878_1.jpg

Felipe Massa’s karting event the past weekend would have been a perfect opportunity for him to get closer to new teammate Fernando Alonso and build a great collegial relationship ahead of a tough season in 2010. Since the Spaniard took plenty of time to get closer to the mechanics and engineers at Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello over the past week, it would have been only natural to do the same as far as his future teammate is concerned.

However, as confirmed by Massa, the 2-time world champion declined his invitation to take part in the charity event at Florianopolis, despite the fact that plenty of F1 and IndyCar competitors had already announced their presence at the karting track. Although he didn’t received an explanation for his refusal, Massa revealed he will continue to invite Alonso at the annual charity event until he finally accepts.

Felipe Massa stars, Schumi wins, in kart race

55489_2.jpg

Felipe Massa made a successful return to competitive racing by taking a heat victory in his charity karting event in Brazil this weekend. The Ferrari star had to miss the second half of the 2009 Formula 1 season after sustaining a serious head injury in a crash at the Hungaroring.

But Massa’s recovery was swift, and he has already got back behind the wheel of an F1 Ferrari in testing, as well as karting extensively. This weekend he has made his first racing starts since the accident in his annual International Challenge of the Go-Kart Champions event at the Florianopolis track.

He finished third in Saturday’s opening leg, which was won by Michael Schumacher ahead of Force India driver Tonio Liuzzi. In today’s race Massa and Schumacher charged through the field from the reverse grid start to pass early leader Rubens Barrichello and have their own battle for victory.

Massa held off his former Ferrari F1 team-mate by 0.087s to secure the win, although Schumacher took the outright title when the results of the two heats were aggregated. Barrichello fell back to fourth today behind IndyCar driver Vitor Meira, while Liuzzi was caught up in a series of tangles.

The event also featured Nelson Piquet, in his first race against his F1 rivals since his controversial exit from Renault and the subsequent race-fixing scandal. Piquet was involved in incidents in both races.

2011 Ford Mustang gets New 305HP V6

2011-Ford-Mustang-V6-0.jpg

Well, it was about time; Ford has finally decided to equip its base Mustang with a modern V6 engine to compete against GM’s ‘been there, done that’ 2010 Camaro V6. In particular, Ford will replace the 2010MY’s obsolete 4.0-liter V6 with its comical output of 210HP and 240 lb-ft of torque with an all-aluminum Duratec 3.7-liter DOHC Ti-VCT V6 that delivers 305 horsepower and 280 ft.-lb.

That’s only 10HP and 45 lb-ft of torque less than the current Mustang GT’s 4.6L V8.

In another technological breakthrough for Ford (…), the new V6 will be coupled to six-speed transmissions, either manual or automatic. We remind you that the 2010 Mustang V6 and V8 models are offered with 5-speed gearboxes. Read the rest of this entry »

Despite the recession, tuners continue to show more and more flashy projects. This is the case with German tuner Loma-Performance, who announced that its new Corvette C6 tuning package is inspired by the United States’ Air Force One Boeing 747.

If you think that a sports agile car inspired by a big, ugly passenger plane is stupid, then just check out Loma’s name for its new baby: “the C6.BlackforceOne.” The aircraft theme continues as the C6.blackforceOne is available in Stealth matt black, Eurofighter matt grey and White Storm matt white.

mazda-6-takes-best-2009-medium-car-in-australia-13861_1

The Mazda 6 received another award after already being Australia’s best selling imported car in the medium segment. The car competed against class rivals like the Ford Mondeo, Subaru Liberty 2.5i Sports and the Toyota Prius.

The 2009 Drive Car of the Year award (or dCOTY abbreviated) is an Australian automotive prize granted by The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Drive.com.au. The judges gave the Mazda 6 the award after assessing several aspects of major customer interest like value-for-money, economy, driving performance and dynamics, safety and practicality.

In tests, the judges noted the car’s styling, interior user-friendliness, quality feel and competitive space. These independent tests are one of the best ways to properly and reliably inform both customers and carmakers about each car’s strong and weak points as well as day-to-day expectations.

Superchips upgrade for Golf VI GTI Engine

superchips-engine-upgrade-presented-13859_1.jpg

Volkswagen took a different approach with its Golf R, as the Germans ditched the 3.2 liter V6 engine for a more powerful version of the 2 liter turbocharged engine. This might be dangerous territory as tuners are already challenging the Golf R with tweaked Golf GTIs.

Superchips is one of the tuners which worked on the GTI’s engine management system. The changes were confirmed by using the firm’s in house chassis dynamometer and extensive road testing. Their aim was not only to boost power, but also create a more responsive engine.

Canada is officially back into Formula One, as confirmed by Montreal’s mayor Gerald Tremblay on Friday. After months of negotiations with the Canadian government, Ecclestone finally reached an agreement for the return of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the Formula One calendar for a period of at least 5 years.

The return of the Formula 1 to Montreal attests to our sustained efforts and determination. This win-win deal falls in line with the terms we set and the taxpayer’s ability to pay and will create stability for the next five years,” said a delighted Tremblay after the deal was official.
