Double Diffuser Issue Once Again

ferrari-raises-double-diffuser-issue-once-again-16460_1.jpg

Ferrari have indeed been quite quick during the first test meeting of the off-season, in Valencia, but that doesn’t mean the Italian technicians won’t pay a great deal of attention to their championship rivals in the upcoming few weeks. In fact, the Scuderia’s technical director Aldo Costa has already raised some issues regarding last year’s controversial double diffuser rules.

According to the Ferrari technical, the aforementioned car part will again be subject to many rule interpretations prior to the start of the 2010 campaign, as all teams have fitted it to their cars differently. Since the FIA rulebook on double diffusers are still very grey, Costa said it will only be a matter of time until a new saga will burst on this topic.

Top Gear Vietnam Special Bikes

top-gear-vietnam-special-bikes-join-museum-exhibition-16444_1.jpg

The National Motor Museum recently purchased two motorcycles featured in the 2008 Top Gear Vietnam Special, when Clarkson, May and Hammond were challenged to travel the entire length of the country in just eight days. The two machines, a 1967 Piaggio Vespa 150cc VBC Super and a 1973 Honda 50cc Chaly, are currently displayed in the museum’s World of Top Gear exhibition.

The three presenters started their adventures in Saigon and they were each given 15 million Vietnamese dong to buy vehicles. Equalling to only £600, the money were not enough to purchase a car. The Top Gear team therefore decided to buy motorcycles: May a 50cc Honda Club, Hammond a Russian-built 125cc Minsk and Clarkson a Piaggio Vespa.

The Honda Chaly is painted in the distinctive Stars ‘n Stripes livery of the ‘Captain America’ Harley-Davidson chopper, ridden by Peter Fonda in the iconic 1969 movie, Easy Rider. The bike had also been fitted with an iPod audio system continuously playing Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born in the USA’.

So far, the Vespa and the Honda Chaley have been on display at the Saigon Scooter Centre in ‘as last used’ unrestored condition. They now form part if the line-up of Top Gear vehicles currently showcased at the National Motor Museum.

Visitors to the exhibition can also experience the Top Gear ‘Enormodrome’ which aims to recreate the feel of the Top Gear studio. They can also watch an exclusive video presentation from behind-the-scenes at the Top Gear HQ with Jeremy, Richard and James, as well as the Cool Wall and Celebrity ‘Lap Time’ boards.

Nissan’s award winning system enables eco-driving at a low cost. In the future, the system will be found on a wider range of vehicles, so it is expected that it will contribute to serious energy conservation.

Protoscar LAMPO2

protoscar-lampo2-details-16413_1.jpg

The Swiss company Protoscar continues to tease us with a set of pictures and a video of its upcoming LAMPO2 electric sports car, which will be unveiled next month at the Geneva Motor Show. This feels like 2009 all over again, as the same marketing strategy was used for the introduction of the original LAMPO at last year’s Geneva Auto Show.

The LAMPO2 is underpinned by GM’s Kappa platform, which can usually be found under the Opel GT, Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky - the car has decided to keep the cabrio theme. As you can see, this is wrapped in a pretty unconventional body. Actually we think the correct term would be “odd”.

Webber’s advantage of taking the RB6

mark-webber-will-debut-the-rb6-at-jerez-16398_1.jpg

It has recently surfaced in the media that Red Bull Racing veteran driver Mark Webber will have the honor to drive first the newly-developed RB6 single-seater during the upcoming test meeting in Jerez. Although the team did not issue any statements on the matter, a report from the GMM news agency suggested that it will be the Aussie driver to drive the car during the first two days of testing.

That will leave German driver Sebastian Vettel the last 2 days of testing in order to feel the new RB6 on the Jerez track.

The Milton Keynes-based team did not make it to the Valencia test meeting earlier this week, as the Austrian/British outfit had revealed there were still working on the development of the RB6. Consequently, the team will reveal the new car on February 10 on the pit lane of the Jerez circuit, only hours before taking it to the track. Read the rest of this entry »

Everything Good For Vijay Mallya

vijay-mallya-plays-down-dissolution-allegations-16397_1.jpg

Following the recent reports that Force India Mercedes might face dissolution as a result of failing to register its accounts with Companies House for 2008, the team’s co-owner Vijay Mallys played down such a prospect and ensured the media that everything is under control at the Silverstone factory.

The Indian billionaire talked to Autosport earlier today and confirmed that the deadline for registering those accounts has already been extended for February 25, and that the team has every intention of setting the records straight prior to the beginning of the 2010 season opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
